Relieving pain, burning, urgency, frequent urination, and discomfort caused by irritation of the lower urinary tract. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) is a urinary tract analgesic. Exactly how Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) works is not known. It is thought to work by relieving pain on the lining of the urinary tract.
Important safety information:
Do NOT take more than the recommended dose or use for longer than 2 days without checking with your doctor.
Do not use Phenazopyridine for future urinary tract problems without first checking with your doctor.
Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) may change the color of your urine to orange or red. It may also stain fabric. This is normal and not a cause for concern.
Do not wear soft contact lenses while taking Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T); permanent staining of the lenses may occur.
Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) may interfere with certain lab tests including urinalysis. Be sure your doctor and lab personnel know you are taking Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T).
Use Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) while you are pregnant. It is not known if Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T), check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) side effects
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. No COMMON side effects have been reported with Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T). Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blue or purple skin color; decreased urination; loss of appetite; unusual fatigue; vomiting; weight loss; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) is used to treat bladder or kidney infections, or ear infections caused by certain bacteria. Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) may also be used for purposes not listed in Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) guide.
Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in your mouth and throat;
pale skin, easy bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin;
high potassium (slow heart rate, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling); or
severe headache with muscle cramps, confusion, weakness, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, and weak or shallow breathing.
Other common side effects may include:
stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea;
sore or swollen tongue; or
mild itching or skin rash.

Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) dosing
Usual Adult Dose for Urinary Tract Infection:
Acute uncomplicated infections: 100 mg orally every 12 hours or 200 mg orally every 24 hours for 10 days
Usual Adult Dose for Cystitis Prophylaxis:
100 mg orally at bedtime for 6 weeks to 6 months
Usual Adult Dose for Pneumocystis Pneumonia:
(Not approved by FDA) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations: HIV-infected patients: 15 mg/kg/day orally in 3 divided doses (in addition to dapsone 100 mg daily) for 21 days Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) with dapsone is recommended as alternative treatment of mild-to-moderate Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia.
Usual Pediatric Dose for Otitis Media:
Acute infections: 6 months or older: 5 mg/kg orally every 12 hours for 10 days
Usual Pediatric Dose for Urinary Tract Infection:
Acute uncomplicated infections: 12 to 18 years: 100 mg orally every 12 hours or 200 mg orally every 24 hours for 10 days 2 months to less than 12 years: 2 to 3 mg/kg orally every 12 hours for 10 days

FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.
Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) should not be given to a child younger than 6 months old.
How should I take Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T)?
Use Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
Take Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) by mouth after meals.
Taking Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T) at the same time(s) each day will help you remember to take it.
If you miss a dose of Phenazopyridine (Carmurit T), take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

How should I take Trimethoprim (Carmurit T)?
Follow the directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Take your medicine with a full glass of water.
Measure liquid medicine with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Trimethoprim (Carmurit T) will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
This medication can cause unusual results with certain medical tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using Trimethoprim (Carmurit T).
Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
What other drugs will affect Trimethoprim (Carmurit T)?
Tell your doctor about all medications you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with Trimethoprim (Carmurit T), especially:
a diuretic (water pill);
dofetilide (Tikosyn);
heart or blood pressure medication such as procainamide (Procan, Pronestyl) and others;
leucovorin (folinic acid);
methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall); or
phenytoin (Dilantin).
