Secretin indications
Secretin is a hormone, prescribed for secretion stimulating test in stimulation of pancreatic secretions, stimulation of gastrin secretion in order to identify gastrinoma, pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer. It inhibits gastric acid secretion.
Secretin contraindication
Contraindicated in patients suffering from acute pancreatitis.
Secretin dosage
To Stimulate Pancreatic Secretions- 0.2 mcg/kg body weight by intravenous injection over 1 minute. To Stimulate Gastrin Secretion - 0.4 mcg/kg body weight by intravenous injection over 1 minute.
Secretin usage
It comes as a powder (diluted with fluid) for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.
Secretin precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with history of inflammatory bowel disease, acute pancreatitis, liver impairment, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
